Waco Planting Calendar: June

Asparagus...that's all you can plant in your vegetable garden this month, if you want to.   It's the last month to attempt it.

Just keep everything well watered and enjoy your air conditioning!

(This planting calendar only covers when to plant vegetables and herbs (seeds and sets).

Waco Garden Calendar: May

May is not a big month for seed planting, at least in your vegetable garden (which is what we track here).   There's only three veggies that can still be planted this month (bolded means it's the last month you can plant this this season):

  • Asparagus
  • Southern Peas (before May 20)
  • Sweet Potato (slips - before May 15)*

*Texas A&M planting guide for this region says that you can plant these until May 15 in this region, while the Farmer's Almanac planting guide for Waco says to only plant them until April 20.   So, it may be a bit risky to plant them this month.

Month by Month Gardening in Texas: What to Do Each Month to Have a Beautiful Garden All YearThese are all plants which are great for planting in April here.  I got this info from a book called Month-to-Month Gardening in Texas (which has other tips like lawn care and fertilizing and all that).

I found the photos for my mosaic on Flickr, and the photographers were nice enough to offer up for use through Creative Commons (click on the links to see the photos larger).  Yes, the Sountern Peas (ie cowpeas) in that picture are blighted (that was just a hard one to find, so I took what I could get.)

I'm linking up at the gardening linkies at Living More, Spending Less and Ramblings of a Christian Mom.  Also linking up at Mosaic Monday.

Quick Garden Tip: Seed Organization

If you are planting multiple seeds in the same bed, and want to stagger them (so you want to have both the seeds out to use at the same time), use caps for various things in a larger Tupperware, dish, or box to put the seeds into for easy access.

Wildflower Spotting (2012)

I spotted this wild Trout Lily in Cameron Park in January 2012.

I gather they are quite rare.  Have you ever spotted one?
