Weebles Coast to Coast at the Mayborn

If your child loves interactive pretend play, they will love the Weebles Coast to Coast exhibit at the Mayborn.  My kindergardener played there for hours and didn't want to leave when it was time to go home.

There are hands on exhibits for all 50 states.  Here are a few of them.


Kids can take a balllon ride, which has a picture in the floor
which shows them going up or down as they pull the cord!
This was a favorite with my son.



They can also try out being a part of the pin crew for the 
Indianapolis 500.



The lights of this pop art exhibit show different colors depending on how many times you
press them.  A whole wall full of glowing buttons--what kid wouldn't love that?



There's a cave to explore.



There's a spot to try out camping in the
Appalachian Mountains.



Or, take a fun drive down the California coast.



All and all I was really impressed with this exhibit.  Little kids will love it.  It really gives them a great chance to pretend and use their imagination.  Older kids may not enjoy it as much.

Farm Day Coming April 5


One of my favorite local events is happening again.  Every Spring and Fall, the World Hunger Relief Farm holds a Farm Day.  It's a great event for families.  There's animals to pet, great healthy food, music, and fun activities.   It's not a big fair, but there's enough to keep you occupied for a few hours...and best of all it's free!  (OK, the food isn't free...but you know what I mean).  And, this event helps support their mission of reducing hunger around the world.

There were camels!  (Not sure if they will be there again this year, but I hope so!)



My kiddos enjoyed taking a horse ride.

The petting zoo however, was completely free, and my kids spent A LOT of time there.






This friendly goat didn't mind the kids covering her with hay. 
I think she liked it actually.  It was a rather chilly day that day.  



While I was there I also did a little shopping and picked up some yummy cookies and muffins and some live plants for my garden (chocolate mint and a small leafed basil).  A fun day.  Looking forward to going again next week.

Snowfall

I wake up this morning and before I even look out my window I check the Midway app on my phone.  Nothing.  So I open safari on my phone and check the website.  Nothing new...don't even see the message they had last night about where they would be posting notices of closures.  "Dang,"  I think, "I was really hoping to sleep in."  Had some trouble sleeping the last couple days and it sure would be nice, but I drag myself out of bed.  And then I see this outside my window...



Snow!  Wow, I guess it's just not enough for a snow day.  I check the computer one more time...and there it is.  Not sure why it didn't show up on my phone, but they're postponing 2 hours.  "YES!" I think, preparing to slip back into bed, when I hear a little, kinda grumpy voice behind me.  

Oh well...I could tell him to go back to bed, but I know he'll want to see this.  We have some breakfast and he's dressed in record time...and out in the white stuff.


This is all before his brothers wake up.  They do and I'm getting breakfast for everyone and giving them instructions on where they can play and who should watch who and how they should bundle up...cause I have every plan of going back to sleep.  And I do, for a glorious 'nother hour before I wake up and hussle everyone into the car.  There's an air of holiday, even though they only got an extra two hours this morning.

And I look up, and the clouds are dramatically split in two...one half white, the other half dark, with blue skies left of all.  The picture below doesn't begin to capture it, because it was fading by the time I got back and could take a picture.  




What a morning!  Love when it snows here, even it's just a dusting.

Below you can  links to coloring pages, paper dolls and other resources related to various historical and cultural figures from the Dover Sampler.  These may be eventually removed, so snag them while you can.   They do have some limitations on how you can use them, but using them for home use with your kids or in the classroom should be fine.  I've organized them below by last name, birthdate, and by category (entertainers, politicians, ect.), and I'll be adding more to this list as I discover them.  I also have another list organized by Era which has other historical printables.
